The PhD program, which ranges in time between four and six years, is led by Cun-Yu Wang, PhD, DDS, Program Director, and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Sotirios Tetradis, DDS, PhD who serves as an Associate Doctoral Advisor. The number of students accepted to the PhD program ranges from two to five individuals.

The PhD program in Oral Biology requires students to complete the courses in the Oral Biology Program Core, in addition to courses designed to build a solid foundation of research experience and laboratory expertise.

What to Expect

Doctorate students will participate in laboratory rotations and take academic courses in their first year. A research mentor will be chosen at the end of the first year, who will instruct them over the next three to four years while they work intensively for their thesis dissertation. At the end of their second year, students are expected to pass a written and oral exam called the Qualifying Presentation. A Dissertation defense is required before graduation. A Midstream Exam occurs between these two presentations.
